My friends young beardie is not doing well.. for a few days it was hard to get him to eat more than a few crix a day. Then he pretty much all together stopped eatting.
My friend took him to the vet yesterday, but as he had not eatten there was no poop for a fecal. He weighs about 5 grams and probably about 2.5 - 3 months old. She was not sure if she could get the deworming medicine diluted enough to even give him, but she was able. She also gave him a hydration injection.
The vet sent them home, after showing my friend how to force feed Zak. 1 to 5 cc of chicken baby food.
After Brett gave Zak about 4-5 cc last night, Zak started to shake his head. Then would stop and a little later do it again. It is a new symptom. When the vet called today to follow up on Zak, she thinks that maybe 5cc is too much food and now they have cut it down to 1cc several times a day.
Zak is hanging in there, but definately not thriving at this point.
Keep him in your thoughts :)
Zak is the one on the rock (he is oogling a picture of Zoey (my beardie)

I hope little zak gets better! he’s such a cutie. I think that’s cute how there’s a pic of zoey for him to look at! Plan on breeding the 2 of them when they’re older? Poor little beardie though! I really hope he starts doing better! ~Christie

I hope he’s doing ok. Keep us posted. Are you sure about his weight or age though. My new little girl only looks about 8 weeks old, and she is very small (the size of my pointing finger approx.), but weighs about 25 grams. However, my scale could be very inaccurate and I’m not sure what is an average weight for that size, so I could be way off. Did Zak start acting like this after the parasite meds? And if so, which was it? Perhaps Fenbendazole or Ivermectin? Either one of those meds can wipe out a BD for a few days (even up to a week), and then they can bounce right back. They’re hard on their systems, both equally so, but Ivermectin has been known to possibly be fatal to reptiles (although contraversial).

hiya Xena about the weight yes.. 5g - the vet weighed him... and my friend has had Zak for 4 weeks... so I would guess he about the age I mentioned... he has not grown much in the 4 weeks.. and infact since he stopped eatting he has gotten pretty thin.
the vet simply said, at his weight and size its hard to dose him, take xrays or anything. She said that some of these lil guys are just not mention to thrive/survive. but she is doing everything she can, to help brett get Zak kicking :)

Brett would like to thank you for all the prayers and kind words... but tonite about 6:45pm Zak crossed over the Rainbow Bridge..
We will both miss him greatly. He was a real fighter.. for almost a week now.. he ate very little, couldnt carry his own body weight, and rarely opened his eyes. He just wouldnt let go for some reason.
Earlier in the day Brett had adopted another bearded dragon relunctantly. Within a couple hours of the new beardie coming home, Zak took his last breath in Bretts hand.
I think Zak was waiting for Brett to bring another home. He wanted to be sure Brett wouldnt be alone.
Brett is in PA and Im in Michigan, but over the phone we will bury him tomorrow.
This is my favorite poem:
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
